Educational Technology and Copyright Laws

  • Copyright is a federal law that protects "works of authorship" in the United States.
  • Once you create an original writing, drawing, etc. it is automatically copyrighted by you, and you have the right to reproduce it, display it publicly, and distribute copies of your work.
  • The Fair Use law allows students to use copyright material for educational purposes only, such as attaching an image that you found on google to your blog posting.
  • Not every image can be used.
  • If someone does not want their image used in student work, they have the right to pull their image off your document.
